A port of the word game for NES

Wordle NES is a free-to-play puzzle that is a version of the popular word game for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Similar to the original, you have to guess the mystery word with only a limited number of guesses. You can enjoy the game in different ways thanks to its modes such as a timed version or a free, relaxed version.

As a port for a discontinued game console, it can be played by anyone through an emulator instead. Complete your next NES gaming session with Spacegulls (NES) and Bombermaaaan.

What to expect from this game

As with the original Wordle game, Wordle NES gives you a number of chances to try and guess the mystery word. A tile will be colored green the next turn if you guessed the right color in the right position. It will be yellow if you got the right letter but in an incorrect position. Lastly, the blocks remain gray if you didn’t get anything right.

The game translates this premise into an authentic NES experience, featuring an 8-bit visual style and original chiptune music. Still, as a game, it is not standalone and requires a supported NES emulator to run. However, the game even supports authentic NES peripherals such as the Family BASIC keyboard–letting you play a word-based game with a customized, fitting device like this keyboard.

There are multiple game modes to choose from: NES Wordle with 3 lives, a Timed Wordle mode, and a Chill Wordle mode. The game also logs high scores with your unique initials, like most arcade games of the time. Although the game works generally fine, there are small bugs such as words that are not in the official Wordle dictionary, making them virtually unsolvable.

A retro Wordle challenge

As Wordle has become popular, retro players now have their own version with the Wordle NES. It plays just like the real thing, only in 8-bit graphics and chiptune sounds, which gives this game its own unique appeal. The game even provides you with multiple game modes to add twists to the base experience. This combines the hit word puzzle with the goodness of old-school games. Recommended.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.
